Thank You Letter Guidelines
Congratulations!
Congratulations on being selected to receive a scholarship from the Cowley College Foundation!
This award reflects both your dedication to your education and the generosity of a donor who believes in your future.
As part of your scholarship acceptance, we kindly ask that you write a thank-you letter to show your appreciation. This is often the only opportunity your donor has to hear directly from you and learn how their support is making a difference.
Letter Requirements
Format:
- A hand-written note is preferred and appreciated.
- A typed letter (submitted as a Word document) is also acceptable.
- Emails will not be accepted.
Who to Address It To:
- Address the note to the name of the scholarship or the donor, if known.
- Do not address your letter to “To whom it may concern.”
- If you received more than one scholarship, you must write a separate thank-you note for each one.
What to Include:
- Thank the donor for their support.
- Share how the scholarship will help you achieve your academic and career goals.
- Consider adding your major, career aspirations, or something personal to help the donor get to know you.
- Your letter should be at least 3–4 sentences long.
- One-sentence notes will not be accepted.
Final Touches:
- Proofread your letter for grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
- Make sure your sentences are complete and well-written.
Why It Matters
- Donors give because they care—and your letter shows them that their gift is truly changing a life.
- A thoughtful thank-you note goes a long way in keeping these scholarships available for future students like you.
