22nd annual Duck Dash raises more than $20,000
Enjoying great food and entertainment, 237 people attended the 22nd annual Great Cowley Duck Dash held Saturday at Cowley College’s W.S. Scott Auditorium.
The event, which was planned to be held at Spring Hill Farms in Winfield, had to be moved to the Cowley College campus due to the excessive amount of rain that fell during the week.
The event, which featured a duck race and duck squat, has raised more than $340,000 for student scholarships over the past 22 years.
“The 22nd annual Duck Dash was a great success again this year,” Cowley College vice president of institutional advancement Dr. Kori Gregg said. “We are so appreciative of the continued support from the community for this, our largest fundraising event of the year. The proceeds from this event allow the Cowley College Foundation to provide much needed scholarships to students who might otherwise be financially unable to attend college. While we are always disappointed when the weather does not cooperate, everyone who attended had a wonderful time socializing, enjoying the entertainment and of course watching the ducks race to the finish line.”
To accommodate not having a live duck race out at the farm, the evening featured a video of the duck race recorded a few days prior to the event. The duck squat was held on the W.S. Scott Auditorium stage.
Dr. Nick and Scott Rogers of Rogers Family Dentistry entertained the crowd as the emcees for the duck races, duck squat, and raffle.
Laura McPherson of Elephant Juice Photography was the winner of the winning duck race and the $1,000 cash prize. Dr. Nathan and Amy Niles were the winners of the duck squat and were awarded $500. There were also raffle winners at the event, while Jared Brown & The Dirt Road Misfits provided musical entertainment. Great Western Dining catered the dinner.
There were 547 ducks sold for the duck race.
